Outback – Day 7

April 20, 2009

Watarrka (Kings Canyon), hiking again up and down this awesome Canyon and relaxing in the “Garden of Eden” in the middle of it. On the way we saw an “Thorny Devil” – the pictures say more…Then we reached our final destination: Alice Springs…it is bigger than you would imagine.

In the evening we all had dinner together at the Hostel and went partying in the famous pub in Alice Springs…easy to find: it’s the only one they got!

Outback – Day 6

April 19, 2009

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) – went hiking through the amazing Valley of the Winds, saw wild horses on the way and spent the night at Kings Creek cattle station – and even after a hard day hiking: jogging with “Clancy from Australia” was set up on the schedule.

Outback – Day 5

April 18, 2009

Sunrise breakfast at Uluru – then a walk around – and probably the highlight of the trip: the climb up to the top and middle of Uluru! It was pretty tough…but we made it! First the climb was closed, because of strong winds – but after the walk around luckily it was open!

Outback – Day 4

April 17, 2009

All the way up almost to Uluru (Ayers Rock), visited an Aboriginal Community with an Art gallery, where Karin bought a beautiful painting.

On the way we left South Australia and went into Northern Territory.

We stayed at Yulara (Ayers Rock resort), watched the sunset over Uluru and couldn’t wait to see the big red rock the next day.

Outback – Day 2

April 15, 2009

Started the day with a nice ride on bicycles through the Flinders Ranges and then on to Marree, left the civilization behind us going along the Oodnadatta Track and followed the Old Ghan Railway (yes there is a new one!) passing an old coal mine on the way and visiting Talc Alf, probably the craziest and maybe (!) most clever Australian I met – in any way this old guy living in the middle of nowhere has an answer to everything. Finally arrived in William Creek, which has about 3 inhabitants (no kidding! It’s South Australia’s smallest town) – and camped under the beautiful desert stars!

Outback – Day 1

April 14, 2009

Groovy Grapes “Desert Patrol” – nine days of fun with “Clancy from Australia” – all the way from Adelaide up to Alice Springs in the middle of Australia…and a lot of things to see on the way, even “nothing”.

On the first day we drove a lot and stopped in the beautiful Flinders Ranges…almost like the alps…ok, not really!
